Applying for Tax Exemption
Businesses with tax exemption certificates may apply to have their Tools Direct USA account set up as tax exempt. Pending approval, any purchases that ship to the state(s) in which you have provided approved exemption forms will automatically remove sales tax at checkout. Please follow the instructions below to apply for sales tax exemption.
Please note: Any orders placed before you have received notification on your accounts tax exemption status will need to be canceled and re-placed to remove the taxes. Please do not place an order until after we have set your account up as tax exempt.
How to Apply
-
Create a Tools Direct USA account or sign in if you already have one. Make sure to use the email address that belongs to that account.
-
Upload your exemption PDF(s) (you must be signed in; you will be asked to sign in if you are not).
-
After your exemption is reviewed, you will receive an email either confirming your tax exempt status, or requesting additional information.
-
Pending approval, any orders placed on your account with a shipping address matching your exemption form will no longer be charged sales tax.

The tax rate applied to your order will be the combined state and local rates of the address where your order is delivered to. For example, if you live in a state that does not impose a sales tax, you may still see tax calculated on your order if shipped to another state. Additionally, the tax rates applied to your order may also be different for a variety of reasons, such as a shipment to a residential home versus a business address.
